Frequently Asked Questions
Everything you need to know about EuroHund dogs, selection, and placement
About Our Dogs
Are your dogs safe with children?
Yes. That goes well beyond basic temperament testing.
One example is Boston, who has lived with the same family for over eleven years, from before they had children through raising four of them. He has remained calm, stable, and protective throughout every stage.
A correctly bred and selected German Shepherd understands the difference between everyday life and a real problem. That is what allows one dog to live safely with children while still being fully capable if needed.
That balance comes from genetics first, reinforced by proper upbringing and guidance.
Are all Czech German Shepherds the same?
No. “Czech working line” describes origin, not quality.
There is a wide range today. Some programs have maintained and refined what made these dogs exceptional. Others have moved away from it.
After nearly thirty years working with these bloodlines and the people behind them, we know the difference and select breeding pairs accordingly.
What makes EuroHund dogs different?
What Makes EuroHund Different?
There is no shortage of German Shepherd breeders, importers, or people willing to sell you a dog. What makes EuroHund different is not simply where our dogs come from, it's how we evaluate them, raise them and the knowledge behind every recommendation we make.
For nearly thirty years, EuroHund has been involved with working German Shepherd Dogs as trainers, breeders, and importers. We have personally owned, trained, bred, and lived with many of the same bloodlines we offer today. More importantly, we have watched those bloodlines develop over multiple generations.
A pedigree is one of the most valuable tools in dog breeding, but only when you understand what lies behind the names.
Most people see a pedigree as a list of dogs, titles, and health certifications. We see generations of history. We know which dogs consistently produced exceptional temperaments, which family lines excelled in police work, personal protection, sport, or family life, where health concerns appeared, which breedings consistently worked, and which did not. Much of that knowledge is never written on a pedigree.
That knowledge does not come from one person.
It comes from decades of shared experience among people who have dedicated their lives to these dogs. Each brings firsthand knowledge of different bloodlines, families, and generations. Together, that collective experience provides a far more complete understanding than any individual could possess alone. EuroHund brings this together through partners and colleagues that have been immersed in this, some since 1972.
Our closest collaboration is with Vlčí údolí, whose breeding philosophy closely reflects our own. Through that relationship and through a small circle of highly trusted colleagues who have earned one another's respect through years of consistently producing exceptional dogs, we are able to draw upon generations of firsthand knowledge when evaluating a breeding or recommending a puppy or adult dog.
We are not interested in reinventing the working German Shepherd Dog.
Our philosophy is one of thoughtful refinement.
Over the decades, careful selection has shown that a truly exceptional working dog does not have to be difficult to live with. A serious protection dog can possess tremendous courage, determination, and defensive ability while remaining clear-headed, stable, and completely trustworthy with its handler and family. Likewise, a family companion or service dog does not need to be an adrenaline-fueled dog that is exhausting to live with in order to possess excellent working ability. We believe the greatest breeding programs are those that continually refine these qualities while preserving the traits that have proven themselves over generations.
Selecting the right dog is only the beginning.
Every EuroHund client benefits not only from the lifetime support of the breeding program behind their dog, but also from nearly thirty years of professional training experience. As your puppy or adult dog matures, questions inevitably arise regarding development, behavior, training, and everyday life. Having access to both an experienced breeder and an experienced trainer provides a level of guidance that few programs can offer.
Whether a dog is bred by EuroHund, our partner kennel Vlčí údolí, or one of the trusted professionals within our extended professional community, every recommendation is made with the same objective: confidently matching the right dog with the right owner and supporting that partnership for the life of the dog.
Our reputation has been built one placement at a time. After nearly three decades, our greatest measure of success is not how many dogs we have sold, but how many clients tell us years later that their dog exceeded every expectation.
Do I need a protection dog or just a family companion?
Most people are trying to solve a contradiction.
They want a dog that is easy to live with, safe around family and guests, and enjoyable day to day. At the same time, they want a dog that will not hesitate if a real threat ever appears.
The dogs placed through EuroHund are selected for exactly that balance.
When nothing is wrong, they are calm, social, and stable. When something is wrong, they are serious and capable.
You are not managing a liability. You are living with a capable, trustworthy partner.
Are these dogs aggressive?
They are capable of aggression when it is required and unassuming, confident companions otherwise.
These are not passive dogs. If a situation becomes a real threat, they have the ability to respond with serious force.
The difference is control and judgment.
A well-bred dog does not operate in a constant state of aggression or paranoia. It reads situations, understands what is normal, and responds appropriately.
The same dog that is safe in your home can be the same one that will step forward if something truly dangerous happens. EuroHund dogs have proven this in several real-world incidents.
Working Capability
Do your dogs actually work in real situations?
Yes. That is where the difference becomes clear.
Dogs from these programs have gone into law enforcement, search and rescue, service work, and personal protection roles.
In one case, a young dog placed into a professional search environment began making finds that more experienced dogs missed within days.
That level of ability is not created through training alone. It is rooted in genetics, developed through proper foundations, and then selected for specific roles.
Purchasing & Delivery
What countries do your dogs go to?
EuroHund dogs are available to all of the EU, UK, U.S. and Canada. We have also placed dogs in countries just outside the EU and the Middle East.
How does the process work?
It starts with a conversation to understand exactly what you are looking for and what will work in your environment. Completying our Questionnaire/Application gives us a head start on this.
From there, we identify if you are a good match for one of our puppies or, when available, trained adult dogs.
A 50% deposit reserves your dog, with the balance due prior to delivery.
Dogs over 6 months old are usually ready for immediate placement to approved homes or working programs. Puppies going to homes outside of the U.S. can usually get their puppy at 8-15 weeks old depending on specific local regulations.
How does delivery work in the United States?
Dogs are typically raised and developed in the Czech Republic and arrive in the U.S. at approximately six months of age.
They are transported by air from Prague to a major U.S. airport using experienced animal transport services.
How does delivery work in Canada?
Canadian clients typically receive puppies at 15 to 16 weeks due to current routing requirements.
Transport is coordinated through approved routes, often involving entry through the EU before onward travel to Canada. Age at arrival is influenced by those regulations.
How does delivery work in Europe?
European clients have the most flexibility.
Puppies may be picked up locally in the Prague area at 8 weeks old, transported directly to your home or to an approved airport at the appropriate age.
In many cases, dogs are delivered by professional ground transport, allowing for a smoother and less stressful transition.
What is included?
- Pedigree and documentation
- EU passport and health records
- Professional early development
- Transport coordination
- Lifetime support
General
Where are you located?
Raleigh, North Carolina, with dogs bred and developed in the Czech Republic, primarily at our partner kennel, Vlci udoli (Wolf Valley) and with other select breeders and trainers within our network.
How long have you been doing this?
Nearly thirty years as a trainer, breeder and placement specialist working with Czech and Western European working lines and placing dogs into family, service, and professional environments.
Do you offer other breeds?
We can often provide other breeds as well.
Through the same network, we regularly work alongside breeders and trainers of Belgian Malinois, Dutch Shepherds, Labradors, Dobermans, and Portuguese Water Dogs.
The same standards apply.
One example was a Chocolate Labrador trained in light protection and exceptional obedience for a woman returning to public life after a violent incident. She wanted a dog that was approachable and non-intimidating, but still capable of ending unwanted encounters.
That dog fit her life perfectly and helped her regain a life beyond being a victim of violent crime.
Why choose EuroHund?
Because this is not about finding a dog. It is about working with the right people to place the right dog in the right situation.
That difference becomes clear over time.
