Instinct Under Pressure

Real protection can’t be rehearsed. No field exercise or decoy can fully recreate the chaos, fear, physiology or unpredictability of an actual attack. No training field can replicate the confusion, the surge of adrenaline, the sudden fear or the split-second decisive judgment required when danger suddenly becomes very real.

Whether it’s a bear in the mountains , an ambush on a dark street, or a domestic confrontation at home, EuroHund dogs have proven themselves at every opportunity.  These accounts do not include any of our dogs operating as police, prison or military service dogs.

The Night of the Bear

In the still of a New Hampshire night, a family’s quiet property erupted in chaos when a large black bear attacked their dog, Ruby, just outside the home. Within seconds, two EuroHund German Shepherds — Mafie and Adelin — launched into action. Mafie was struck aside by the bear’s paw, Adelin made contact, and together they forced the bear to release its grip and flee into the woods.

“They reacted instantly to try to save the life of one of their family members… Both Mafie and Adelin are very mild-mannered and quiet, yet so courageous when it mattered most.”

The injured dog survived despite not being expected to. Mafie had a slight limp for a few days and Adelin had blood in her mouth, unknown if it was her own or the from the bear.. Their response was instantaneous and this event was over before a human could process it. The dogs were not commanded to intervene.

Countering Human Violence

In other instances, EuroHund dogs have faced not claws and teeth, but human aggression. Their decisive and instinctual violence of action saved the day in each instance.

Three of our dogs, Fatima, Gerta and Ziggy, each engaged violent assailants in  three separate attacks. One was an ambush (male vs female), one a road rage incident (male vs male) and the  last one a direct charge from a drug-fueled attacker (male vs male). All three dogs physically neutralized the threat; all three owners walked away unharmed. The attackers didn’t. These weren’t training exercises — they were real events, handled with control, precision, and unwavering courage. Here are the stories in the words of their owners:

 Fatima Nemesis:

“I had no idea that someone was hiding there.  Suddenly, there he was, I was under attack, it was happening. There was nobody else nearby to help me or even hear me. It was a dreadfully lonely feeling. Then, I heard Fatima Nemesis growl so powerfully and deeply like I had never heard before.  He was focused on me and did not even acknowledge Fatima Nemesis. I realized that this is really going to happen, it is happening, he is coming after me. I had nothing of value, I realized he intends to hurt me. Fatima Nemesis immediately took strong action. The warning sound she made was primitive and guttural, then almost simultaneously came the actual attack for my protection. He was immediately taken to the ground and screaming in pain. Fatima Nemesis inflicted multiple deep wounds that took 36 stitches to close. I had never heard her growl so powerfully and deeply. This from the dog that visits the elderly and plays with Chihuahuas. It's been 1.5 years already and the memories still send shivers down my spine. “

Ziggy:

"While walking the property with Ziggy a man jumped the fence. Obviously he was crazy , whether naturally or drug induced. Once over the fence he started running at me like a wild man. Ziggy intercepted him like a bull and the collision sent him to the ground, he tried to fight Ziggy and get back up. Ziggy did a number on him. He had to go to the hospital before going to jail. Ziggy was uninjured and this lunatic never made it within arms reach of me."

Gerta:

"I went out to pick up my dry cleaning at the mall and get Gerta another bag of food. As I pulled into a parking spot, someone really laid on their horn. Next thing I know there is a guy at my window. Naively, I put my window down and was met with some nasty language and then a fist through the window which I was able to deflect and absorb with my hands. Then without warning, Gerta intercepted the second punch, jumping right over me. I was essentially trapped in my seat, still belted in. Gerta caused some serious damage to his hand, wrist and forearm. He tried to claim Gerta bit him for no reason. He was arrested at the hospital after the police reviewed videos. No charges against us but I did have to provide Gerta’s rabies vaccination records."

Fatima Nemesis decisively defended her female owner during a nighttime attack/ambush.

Show of Force - Protective Presence

An ounce of prevention is worth...

One handler recalls pulling over to allow a speeding car to pass, sparking a road-rage confrontation:

“Two men jumped out and started coming toward my SUV. My four dogs — Diesel, Mack, Koudi, and Jesse — exploded forward into the windshield, fangs and fury. The men froze, turned, and got back in their car without a word. Assault averted.”

Another owner described her dog silently halting a domestic outburst:

“He was screaming and breaking through a baby gate like wrestling on tv. My dog stood up and growled once. He stopped cold. That dog made him reconsider his assault and he stormed out of the house.”

Over and over, EuroHund dogs have proven that real deterrence often requires nothing more than calm readiness and the unmistakable confident presence of a EuroHund German Shepherd.

Jesse made her presence known, ending a road rage assault in progress.

Intuitive Vigilance

One client noticed two suspicious men carrying knives in a public park, very unusual for that area and that park in particular. When he exited his vehicle with his German Shepherd, the dog immediately alerted on one of them - long before police confirmed they had no legitimate reason to be there. They claimed the knives were for fishing despite having no fishing gear with them. These dogs see intent before we do.

The EuroHund Standard

EuroHund dogs are bred for stability, balance, intelligence and high versatility - capable of playful affection one moment, unwavering defense the next. They live with families, sleep beside children, and travel with professionals. Yet when real danger presents itself, they respond without panic, hesitation, or excess.

For over 25 years, our dogs have proven, again and again, that protection isn’t about obnoxious aggression. It's not about training on a field or biting a big protection sleeve.  It's not make believe. It’s about genetic character that cannot be overridden. It's the 5% of German Shepherds that can and will "go there" every time "going there" is warranted.

What Our Clients Say

“Good morning John. First off I want to thank you again for giving me the opportunity to be the owner of what is without a doubt the best dog (the list is just too long) I’ve EVER owned. I’ve had a lot of GSDs and they all, deceased or living, hold a special place in my heart. Axel is the pinnacle of the list. Simply unbelievable. Anyway, feeding time (again) then out to explore “his domain!” 😂🤣 Have a great day and we’ll be in touch! 👍🇺🇸.”

— Jeff G - U.S. Army Special Forces (Retired)

“Caring, knowledgeable and supportive family. Highly recommend! John and Christina are dog people. Their knowledge of care, behavior and breeding is unparalleled. We are first time dog owners and are fortunate to have met such professionals in this field.”

— Kristen B - Crisis Response K9 Handler

““Klara is doing so great with other dogs, she was incredibly sweet and respectful of my 88 year old grandparents; super gentle with the ball, didn’t jump on their laps to give them the ball like she does to me and warmed right up to my grandmother who has a special talent as a dog whisperer! As we sit now practicing relaxing after a walk and play time, I’m so grateful and happy that she’s a part of my life… we may not share a single genetic link but we share many quirks and personality traits, she is truly MY dog and I can’t imagine what life would be like without her ” Emma Dz”

— Emma Dz

“We couldn’t be happier with our girl Corri that John brokered for us. She is great with our children and John was extremely helpful and supportive through the entire process”

“My family got a puppy from here 5 years ago and she has been a member of the family since! Working with Eurohund was easy from start to finish. They were very thorough and expectations were clear, which helped us feel like we could truly trust where our dog was coming from. She is sweet, snuggly, and such a clever girl!! Eurohund was exactly what we were looking for in a breeder.”

— Anna T

“We've had our puppy for almost 3 weeks. She is such a good dog and gets along with everybody and our other dogs. I can't say enough good things about our experience and our new puppy so far.”

— Jeremy D

“My pup, Maisey is a Eurohund GSD. She's an active, healthy 8 year old and an excellent dog, never any major health issues and people have always stopped to tell me what a beautiful dog I have (although what's most important is that she's a very loved member of the family.) I did a lot of research in selecting a breeder and couldn't be happier with my experience with Eurohund. Even eight years later, he still checks in on Maisey and has been a very helpful resource both in the beginning and through the years. I've reached out about getting another puppy from Eurohund when I'm ready and he's been very informative and responsive. I've relocated to Maryland but would without a doubt, work with Eurohund in the future and recommended them to anyone interested in a quality GSD.”

— Jillian C

“We got our Bella from Eurohund in 2018. Friends of ours got their pup from Eurohund the year before and made the recommendation. I had always wanted a GSD because I grew up with one but my husband was more reluctant because he knows of their protective nature. We couldn't be more happy with our girl and the experience we had. We were kept up to date with her progress and how vet appointments went. We were sent pictures as she was growing. We never even met her until we picked her up the day she turned 8 weeks old. We took a big chance not meeting her until then but we had faith she would be a good dog from all the reviews we read about Eurohund and the quality of dogs they are known for. They are a highly recommended breeder of GSDs. Side note: Bella was supposed to be my dog but ended up being a HUGE daddy's girl😆 My husband went from being apprehensive to loving the breed as much as I do❤️”

“We got our German Shepherd, Boston from Eurohund back in 2014 and he has been one of the best things that has ever happened to our little family. Boston is now 5 years old and we couldn’t be more in love with him. Luckily, Boston has been healthy and we have had very little health concerns. Any concerns or advice we have sought about Boston’s health, training, or just general breed-specific questions, EuroHund has always been available and welcoming to answer them all. We trust their expertise and experience with this breed more than any vet or internet search could offer. My husbands line of work sometimes requires him to be gone at night so it was important to him that he knew we were safe and protected. Boston is a great sense of security. He is extremely protective and loyal (while simultaneously being a harmless teddy bear). Boston senses anything and anyone on our four acres of land and surely makes it known to us and those passing through. My husband and I had our first baby, Mason in August 2018 and of course the thought crossed our mind about how Boston would react/interact with a new baby. However, in my heart I knew that Boston would be the best big brother - and I was right! Mason and Boston are absolutely obsessed with one another! We couldn’t be happier about how they interact and how protective and watchful Boston is of Mason. We love them both so much they had no choice but to get along! We just make sure to supervise them at all times and correct/train them both on how to respect each other’s space. We have never had an issue thus far. As a matter of fact, Boston is a great babysitter - there have been many times Boston will bark for our attention whenever he thinks Mason is in danger or getting into anything he shouldn’t be. It’s the sweetest thing! Mason will poke, grab, pat, or annoy Boston any which way - Boston simply just takes it or walks away but he has never been aggressive towards him. Boston’s biggest fault is sometimes not realizing his own size and knocking Mason down at times as they are running around the house playing. Barely phased by it, Mason gets back up and running! It’s all about proper training, supervision, and lots of love! I have attached some photos that truly show their relationship. As my husband would like to stress, Boston and all German Shepherds are truly a “man’s best friend.” Boston provides our entire family with the purest loyalty and unconditional love. He is intelligent and full of personality and life. The words “frisbee” and “car ride” over joy him. His strong and defined appearance may not show it but he is extremely friendly and approachable. Thanks to John and Christina, Boston has stolen our hearts since day one! We highly recommend Eurohund as a reputable and high-quality Breeder and assure you and your family will be pleased!”
